Abat Fayzullayev, Uzbekistan's first ambassador to San Marino (residing in Rome), has presented his credentials to the heads of state, Captains-Regents Francesca Chiverchia and Dalibor Riccardi. This was reported by the Dunyo news agency.

At the ceremony, San Marino's Foreign Minister Luca Beccari welcomed the accredited ambassadors and praised the large-scale economic and democratic reforms being implemented in Uzbekistan under President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s leadership. He also highlighted the strengthening ties between Uzbekistan and San Marino, including the appointment of the first Uzbek ambassador to the country.

Uzbekistan’s policies on climate change, environmental protection, and sustainable development were highly appreciated. Confidence was expressed in further developing trade and economic cooperation, enhancing the bilateral legal framework, and supporting each other’s initiatives in multilateral organizations, particularly within the UN and OSCE.

Diplomatic relations between Uzbekistan and San Marino were established on February 3, 2021. San Marino, one of the world's smallest countries, is entirely surrounded by Italy.

Abat Fayzullayev has been serving as Uzbekistan's ambassador to Italy and permanent representative to international organizations in Rome (FAO, WHO, UNODC) since November 2023. He was appointed ambassador to Cyprus in December 2024 and is also Uzbekistan’s first ambassador to Malta. Earlier this month, he presented his credentials to Malta's President Miriam Spiteri Debono.

Previously, Fayzullayev served as Uzbekistan's ambassador to Austria and acting ambassador to Hungary from 2020 to 2023. He was also the country’s permanent representative to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe and other international organizations in Vienna.
