A debt of over 100 million sums in alimony owed by a father who was held criminally liable has been paid from the Alimony Payment Fund, the Information Service of the Human Rights Ombudsman of the Oliy Majlis reported.
A woman from Fergana appealed to the Ombudsman, stating that her ex-husband had failed to pay alimony for many years. Despite twice applying administrative and once criminal liability measures against the alimony payer, his obligations remained unmet. Considering that the debtor was brought to criminal responsibility, the Ombudsman appealed to the MIB under the Prosecutor General’s Office to address the collection of the alimony debt from the Alimony Payment Fund.
According to the MIB, based on the verdict of the Buvayda District Criminal Court on December 9, 2024, the debtor T.R. was found guilty and sentenced to pay 107.6 million sums in damages caused by the crime, along with a one-year prison term.
Following the Ombudsman’s appeal, on April 18, 2025, 107.6 million sums were transferred from the State Alimony Payment Fund to the collector’s bank card.
For reference, according to Uzbek law, the state bailiff carries out enforcement measures to recover these funds from the debtor and return them to the State Alimony Fund for alimony payments initially covered by the fund.
Previously in Fergana, a father who tried to evade alimony payments by hiding was imprisoned. Last year, men who evaded alimony in Kashkadarya were found hiding in various places including the basement of a house in Namangan and Surkhandarya, a chicken farm in Khorezm, a nightclub in Fergana, and relatives’ houses in Andijan and Bukhara. In Surkhandarya, a father evading alimony was caught at his brother’s wedding. In Andijan, a father was found hiding behind slate in his unfinished house. In the Yunusabad district of Tashkent, a father avoiding financial support for his three children was discovered behind a wall during a search.
