The traditional bread known as “Zomin qozon patiri” has been officially registered as a geographical indication. This was reported by the Ministry of Justice of Uzbekistan.

According to the report, “Zomin qozon patiri” has become the 20th product to be entered into the State Register of Geographical Indications of Uzbekistan. Its name, origin, and unique quality characteristics will now be protected by law.

For reference, a geographical indication is a form of intellectual property that identifies a product as originating from a specific region, where its qualities, reputation, or other features are essentially linked to the natural, human, or historical factors of that location.

“Zomin qozon patiri” is a traditional bread that has been baked for centuries in the Zomin district of the Jizzakh region. It is prepared in a cauldron using specially kneaded dough, local milk, and butter. The bread is known for its distinctive taste and high quality.

It is worth noting that several other regional specialties have recently received similar recognition. On August 24, 2023, “Gijduvon shashlik” was registered as a geographical indication. This was followed by “Guzar tandoori meat” on January 8, 2024, and the internationally known “Samarkand noni” on February 4. In June, “Khorezm tukhumbaragi,” “Andijan duppisi,” “Suqoq samsasi,” “Samarkand nuxot shuragi,” and “Samarkand qogozi” were also granted geographical indication status by the Ministry of Justice.
