The “Kokand patir”, a traditional bread from Fergana region, has been registered as a geographical indication by the Ministry of Justice. The ministry’s press service reported this.
According to the report, Kokand has long been one of the major cultural centers where crafts, trade, and traditional cuisine have flourished. One of the unique examples of this gastronomic heritage is Kokand patir, which stands out for its distinctive taste, traditional recipe, and preparation technology.
This type of bread is known for maintaining its quality and flavor for several weeks due to its unique preparation method.
“The registration of ‘Kokand patir’ as a geographical indication will help provide legal protection for the product’s name and traditional preparation technology, strengthen quality standards, and promote Fergana region’s gastronomic brand internationally,” the statement said.
For reference, a geographical indication is an intellectual property designation that confirms a product’s connection to a specific region and indicates that its quality, reputation, and unique characteristics are closely linked to the natural, climatic, and socio-cultural factors of that area.
It is worth recalling that earlier, “Kokand halva”, one of the famous sweets of Fergana region, was also registered as a geographical indication.
