Qo‘qon Holvasi, one of the famous sweets of Fergana region, has been registered as a geographical indication. The Ministry of Justice reported this.

It was noted that through this registration, the product’s name, traditional preparation method and distinctive features have been granted legal protection.

Since ancient times, the city of Qo‘qon has been one of the centers where handicrafts and national confectionery developed. Qo‘qon Holvasi, which originated in this area, has long been famous for its taste, preparation technology and quality.

It was reported that granting the product geographical indication status will help prevent the illegal use of its original name, preserve traditional preparation methods and develop the local brand.

This is also considered one of the important steps toward preserving the gastronomic heritage of Fergana region and promoting Qo‘qon Holvasi internationally.

For reference, a geographical indication is an intellectual property object that confirms a product’s connection with a specific territory and that its quality and reputation are closely linked to the natural and social factors of that area.

Earlier, it was reported that Andijan Devzira Osh had also been registered as a geographical indication.
