At a videoconference meeting chaired by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on December 13, it was revealed that 1,000 leaders assigned to support poor families in Uzbekistan failed to achieve meaningful results. The meeting focused on the country's social protection efforts and priority tasks for 2025.

The analysis showed that many of these leaders struggled to effectively organize employment for low-income populations, increase family incomes, and provide targeted social services. It was noted that 184 of these leaders had not even visited the homes of the families they were assigned to support.

Although employment among persons with disabilities in Uzbekistan has reached 20 percent, the work remains unsatisfactory in several districts, including Jalaquduq, Chimboy, Pastdargom, Chartak, and Denov. President Mirziyoyev instructed officials to turn these districts into exemplary models and assigned specific responsibilities to relevant authorities.

Another major issue raised was the lack of accessibility for people with disabilities in the designs of 598 social facilities that are slated for inclusion in next year’s Investment Program. Regional and district governors were ordered to address this oversight.

The videoconference was attended by key international figures, including UN Resident Coordinator in Uzbekistan Sabine Machl, UNICEF Representative Regina Maria Castillo, and World Bank Regional Director for Central Asia Tatyana Proskuryakova.
