White cabbage saw the most significant price increase among food products in December, according to specialists from the Institute of Macroeconomic and Territorial Research under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The institute monitored price changes for 21 food products in large supermarkets in Tashkent during December 2024.

The monitoring, conducted on November 7 and December 12, revealed that the minimum prices of 10 products decreased compared to the previous month. Notable reductions included beets (down 21.8%), lemons (down 16.7%), red carrots (down 14.4%), buckwheat (down 10.7%), sugar (down 2.8%), rice (down 2.8%), dairy products (down 2.8%), bananas (down 2.0%), beef (down 1.7%), and wheat flour (down 0.6%).

However, minimum prices for 10 products increased, with white cabbage experiencing the highest surge. Despite this rise, the price of white cabbage in Tashkent remains the lowest among the capitals of Central Asian countries. The price of white cabbage in Dushanbe is twice as high, 1.7 times higher in Astana, and 1.2 times higher in Bishkek.

The price of cucumbers also rose significantly. Nevertheless, compared to the same period last year, the price of cucumbers is 4.3% cheaper.

The minimum price of one product—margarine—remained unchanged.

It is noteworthy that back in June 2024, specialists from the Institute of Macroeconomics and Regional Studies had monitored the prices of 21 food products in large supermarkets in Tashkent. At that time, cabbage, tomatoes, and cucumbers were among the products whose prices saw the most significant declines.
