Over 500 people violating transport safety rules were imprisoned in six months

In Uzbekistan, 551 individuals were imprisoned in the first half of 2024 for crimes related to violations of transport safety regulations. This was reported by Aziz Obidov, the press secretary of the Supreme Court.

It was noted that in the first six months of this year, 1,601 people were convicted under Article 266 of the Criminal Code (Violation of the rules of operation or use of transport vehicles). Of these, 551 were sentenced to imprisonment, while 1,050 received non-custodial sentences.

For comparison, in 2023, 3,325 people were convicted under the same article, with 635 receiving prison sentences and 2,690 receiving non-custodial sentences.

According to the aforementioned article, if the violation of transport safety rules by a vehicle driver results in moderate or severe bodily harm, the penalty can be a fine of up to 50 times the base calculation amount (BHM), up to 360 hours of community service, or up to three years of corrective labor. If the violation results in death, the penalty can be imprisonment for up to seven years along with deprivation of certain rights. If the violation results in multiple deaths or other severe consequences, the penalty can be up to ten years of imprisonment along with deprivation of certain rights.

It should be noted that earlier, it was reported that over 10,000 individuals were imprisoned in the first six months of 2024.
