What measures are taken against M-pox in Uzbekistan?

In response to the potential detection of M-pox in Uzbekistan, comprehensive measures have been implemented to combat the disease, according to Rustamjon Ikramov, head of the Department of the Sanitary and Epidemiological Committee.
He stated that specific measures are being carried out nationwide to prevent the spread of this disease from abroad. Specialists working in regional offices, the central office, and the Republican Research Institute have been retrained to conduct laboratory work in the event of suspected monkeypox cases.
Additionally, efforts are being made to procure the necessary diagnostic and test systems for detecting M-pox.
"We have test systems that were introduced in 2023, and we are working to distribute them to the regions while enhancing our specialists' skills in their use. We are also strengthening the experience of laboratory staff through video conferencing and practical demonstrations," said Rustamjon Ikramov.
It should be noted that the Swedish government recently announced the registration of M-pox in the country. Since the outbreak of this new epidemic in late 2023, the virus has been detected for the first time outside of Africa. Officials explained that the patient contracted the disease during a trip to Africa. Additionally, cases of infection have been identified in Pakistan. The WHO has declared a global emergency due to the monkeypox virus.
