5668We should not rush to create a perfect, friendly Constitution that will guarantee the pain of the people. On 6 October, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev made such a proposal at a meeting with an active member of the Syr Darya region.
We are preparing amendments to the Constitution and a referendum on [building] a just society. By 1 August, the population had submitted 150,000 proposals to amend our Constitution, imagine. This is proof that our people are not indifferent to tomorrow. Teachers, scientists, entrepreneurs, veterans, intellectuals, etc.
Everyone says that whatever the leadership, let the law and the Constitution protect me," said the president, expressing the wishes of the people.
According to Shavkat Mirziyoyev, even though the discussion ended after 1 August, the commission continued its work and received another 2500 proposals.
To create a perfect, people-friendly constitution that will avoid the people’s pain, I suggest you take your time. If necessary, we will consult the people again so that the people will understand that this is their Constitution. Why do you say that people have to respond to 150,000 sentences saying that they’re right, wrong, we accept it, we don’t accept it? Then the idea will arise that it is «time to listen to me», - says Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
We remind you that on 24 June this year, the draft constitutional law «On the introduction of amendments and additions to the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan» was adopted by deputies of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis in the first reading. The Legislative Chamber has also taken the appropriate decision to submit the bill for public discussion.
In addition, the draft constitutional law of the Republic of Uzbekistan «On amendments and additions to the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan», prepared based on the results of public discussion, has been submitted to a referendum of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
However, due to the demonstrations held in Karakalpakstan in early July, the deadline for discussion of the draft constitutional law on amendments and additions to the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan was postponed from 5 to 15 July.
Later, at a meeting of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, held on 15 July this year, a decision was taken on extending the period of public discussion of the draft constitutional law «On Amendments and Additions to the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan». The Republic of Uzbekistan» until 1 August 2022. A decision was made and on 1 August, the public discussion was completed.
