Samarkand court hands down three-year sentence in brutal domestic violence case

3764In the Urgut district of Samarkand region, a man was sentenced to three years in prison for brutally beating his wife with a shovel in front of their children. The verdict was delivered by the Urgut District Criminal Court on December 2, and QALAMPIR.UZ obtained details of the case.
The incident occurred on September 24, 2024, at approximately 19:00 in the “Kuyiqishloq” neighborhood of Urgut district. According to court records, the defendant, 34-year-old E.F., engaged in an argument with his mother-in-law, A.O., due to personal disagreements. Later that evening, around 20:00, E.F. returned home and accused his wife, A.M., of mentally tormenting him and their children. In a fit of rage, he struck A.M. multiple times on her head and arms with his hands and the metal part of a shovel, which is classified as a potential cold weapon. The attack resulted in moderate bodily injuries to his wife.
The court found E.F. guilty under Part 5, Clauses “v, i” of Article 126, Part 1 (Domestic Violence) of the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan. He was sentenced to three years of imprisonment, which he will serve in a correctional facility. The verdict highlights the serious consequences of domestic violence and the legal system's efforts to address such offenses.
This case follows another recent incident in the Kashkadarya region, where a man was sentenced to one year in prison for shooting his wife with a hunting rifle.
