The introduction of the “Ecological Transport” system, aimed at reducing harmful emissions from cars, has been postponed until January 1, 2026. This is stated in the Cabinet of Ministers’ resolution “On measures to simplify the procedure for issuing state registration plates for motor vehicles,” adopted on September 4.
The program, initially scheduled to begin in 2024, has now been delayed for the second time. Its purpose is to cut vehicle-related air pollution and strengthen environmental control.
Implementation will take place in stages. The first stage will be conducted in Tashkent city during 2025–2027, while the second stage, covering 2028–2030, will extend to Nukus and regional centers, and, if necessary, to tourist destinations, nature reserves, and health resorts. The third stage is planned for 2031–2034, during which the program will be expanded across the entire territory of the country.
Compliance with environmental standards will be assessed based on the manufacturer’s “Euro” class data. Vehicles without an identified class will undergo diagnostics at special centers under the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Cars will then receive color-coded eco-stickers:
- green for full compliance with environmental standards,
- yellow for moderate pollution,
- red for high emissions.
The system was originally set to launch on June 1, 2024, but was first postponed to March 1, 2025, before being delayed again to January 1, 2026.
