13229Seven employees of Komil Allamjonov, the former head of the Information Policy Department of the Presidential Administration of Uzbekistan, who were detained in connection with the assassination attempt, were allegedly subjected to torture while in custody. This claim was made by their lawyer, Davronbek Saidov, in an interview with journalists on January 13.
Saidov stated that he intends to file a petition with the court on January 23, requesting a private ruling on the violation of rights and seeking a legal assessment of these violations. "An appeal has already been submitted to the Prosecutor General's Office regarding potential pressure. Once the written complaint is reviewed, we will provide further details," he said.
The lawyer further alleged that violations may have occurred during the arrest and detention of Allamjonov’s employees, who include a driver, a guard, a cook, and a housekeeper.
"According to international law, the conditions of detention and the treatment of detainees should be classified as torture. However, for some reason, this is not recognized as torture in our practice. For example, Article 7 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights prohibits torture and inhuman treatment.
Violations of the right to defense occur under the pretext of needing to conduct an investigation. Therefore, it is difficult to provide further details," Saidov noted.
As previously reported, the public hearing for the employees was postponed, and Komil Allamjonov personally reached out to Saidov to represent them.
