On April 7, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received the heads of parliamentary delegations from Azerbaijan, Belarus, and Central Asian countries, who arrived in Tashkent to participate in the 150th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union. The Presidential Press Service reported on the meetings.

At the outset of the meeting with the Speaker of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Sahiba Gafarova, the distinguished guest conveyed the greetings and best wishes of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to the Uzbek leader.

The sides discussed pressing issues related to expanding and strengthening the friendly, strategic partnership and allied relations between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan.

It was noted with satisfaction that joint efforts are actively underway within the framework of the Year of Economic Cooperation.

“Trade volumes are increasing, cooperation projects across various economic sectors have entered an active phase, and cultural and humanitarian events are held regularly. It was emphasized that close practical cooperation and active parliamentary exchanges are vital to monitor the implementation of agreements and to develop new proposals for upcoming high-level summits,” the report noted.

In a separate meeting with Natalia Kochanova, Chairperson of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus, the Belarusian delegation conveyed greetings and warm wishes from President Alexander Lukashenko.

The discussion focused on strengthening the multifaceted cooperation between Uzbekistan and Belarus. The two sides highlighted the rapid growth in trade volumes, the successful implementation of industrial and agricultural projects, deepening regional cooperation, and increased exchanges in culture, education, and healthcare.

“The importance of sustained interparliamentary dialogue and parliamentary oversight of high-level agreements was stressed,” the statement said.

President Mirziyoyev also held a joint meeting with:
- Yerlan Koshanov, Chairman of the Majlis of the Republic of Kazakhstan
- Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu, Chairman of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic
- Faizali Idizoda, Chairman of the Majlis of the Republic of Tajikistan
- Dunyoguzal Gulmanova, Chairperson of the Majlis of Turkmenistan

The parliamentary leaders conveyed sincere greetings and best wishes from their respective heads of state and praised Uzbekistan for hosting the Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly—held for the first time in the Central Asian region.

Discussions centered on advancing friendly, good-neighborly, strategic, and allied relations among the fraternal countries.

The participants commended the positive outcomes of the recent “Central Asia – European Union” Summit and the Climate Forum held on April 4 in Samarkand. They also underscored the significance of regional milestones, such as the resolution of border delimitation issues and the trilateral agreement signed in Khujand on the convergence of state borders between Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan.

“In recent years, regional trade volumes have grown significantly, new cross-border trade zones are being established, and joint economic projects are actively being implemented. Rich programs in culture and education are also underway,” the report stated.

The meeting reaffirmed the importance of enhancing interparliamentary dialogue—particularly at the committee level—to further unite the peoples of the region, foster joint initiatives, and promote deeper interregional and humanitarian cooperation.

It should be recalled that earlier today, President Mirziyoyev attended the plenary session of the 150th anniversary Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Tashkent. Following the session, he also met with Valentina Matvienko, Chairperson of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation. During their conversation, the possibility of Mirziyoyev participating in the upcoming ceremony in Moscow marking the 80th anniversary of Victory in World War II was discussed.
