Uzbekistan national team captain Eldor Shomurodov is set to join Turkish club İstanbul Başakşehir on loan from AS Roma for €3 million, with a mandatory purchase clause included. This was reported by well-known football insider Fabrizio Romano.
According to Romano, the deal includes a loan fee of €3 million, along with an obligation to buy for €2.7 million. Additionally, Roma will retain a 10% sell-on clause for any future transfers involving Shomurodov.
The striker will sign a two-year contract with Başakşehir, with an option to extend the deal for an additional year.
For reference, while Shomurodov still has one year remaining on his contract with Roma, he has been on the club's list of potential departures since the end of last season.
Last season, Shomurodov made 37 appearances for Roma, scoring seven goals and providing five assists. Roma are currently working to reduce their squad and increase revenue to comply with UEFA’s Financial Fair Play regulations, and their transfer is part of that broader strategy.
It was previously reported that Rennes’ sporting director, Florian Maurice, had contacted Roma regarding the 29-year-old striker. Italian side Cremonese also reportedly showed interest in acquiring Shomurodov.
