Truck traffic restricted in Surkhandarya due to extreme heat

Temporary restrictions will be introduced on the movement of heavy trucks in Surkhandarya region. The Surkhandarya regional administration reported this.

According to the report, the temporary restriction on heavy trucks is being introduced due to the extremely hot weather observed in the region, in order to preserve road surfaces and prevent their premature damage.

According to the Hydrometeorological Service, daytime temperatures in the region are rising to 42-44 degrees Celsius, and even higher in some areas. The regional administration said that under such conditions, the temperature of asphalt concrete surfaces can reach 70-80 degrees Celsius, reducing the load-bearing capacity of the pavement. As a result, the movement of heavy trucks may cause wheel ruts, deformation and other technical defects on road surfaces.

“In this regard, in order to protect roads built and repaired using funds from the state budget and international financial institutions, and in accordance with Articles 15 and 23 of the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan ‘On Road Traffic’ and Article 16 of the Law ‘On Highways,’ the movement of heavy trucks on public roads in Termez city, district centers and the roads connecting them will be temporarily restricted every day from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.,” the regional administration said.

Drivers, freight companies and organizations have been asked to strictly comply with these restrictions and plan cargo transportation times in accordance with the established procedure.

Earlier, due to the ongoing extreme heat, the activities of kindergartens in Nukus city and eight other districts of the Republic of Karakalpakstan were temporarily suspended. After that, Dilfuza Sobirova, press secretary of the Ministry of Preschool and School Education, said kindergartens in Uzbekistan may temporarily close due to the expected abnormal heat. The Tashkent city administration also said street watering and irrigation of green areas would be intensified in Tashkent due to abnormal hot weather.
