A special fund without the status of a legal entity will be created to finance measures addressing the needs of Palestinians brought to Uzbekistan. The proposal by the Ministry of Economy and Finance was approved under the presidential decree “On measures to establish a system of support for a group of Palestinian citizens in Uzbekistan based on the principles of state care and compassion,” signed by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on August 14.
According to the decree, the fund will operate under the National Agency for Social Protection. It will be financed from the following sources:
– Sponsorship donations from legal entities and individuals;
– Grants from international organizations and other sources not prohibited by law;
– Interest income from temporarily depositing the fund’s resources in commercial banks.
The fund will be used for the following purposes:
– Creating necessary living conditions and organizing appropriate services;
– Covering and supporting various expenses;
– Providing material assistance and implementing social support measures.
In line with established procedures, allocation of the fund’s resources and any changes in expenditure priorities will be decided by the Republican Commission. Property, such as housing and motor vehicles, provided free of charge by individuals or legal entities, will be transferred to the balance of local khokimiyats and managed by the Republican Commission.
It should be recalled that on November 11 last year, at an extraordinary Arab-Islamic summit, President Mirziyoyev expressed Uzbekistan’s readiness to provide free treatment in Uzbek hospitals for Palestinian children and women injured in the war. Later, QALAMPIR.UZ contacted Deputy Minister of Health for Children’s and Women’s Affairs Elmira Bositkhanova, who stated that Uzbekistan had sufficient capacity to treat Palestinian children.
On December 27, 2024, 100 wounded Palestinian children and women, along with their companions, were evacuated to Uzbekistan. According to Uzbekistan’s Ambassador in Cairo, Mansurbek Kilichev, the evacuees will be hosted in Uzbekistan and provided with the necessary conditions until they can return to their homeland.
