Kazakhstan appoints new ambassador to Uzbekistan

Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev appointed the country's new ambassador to Uzbekistan on July 22. The announcement was made by Akorda, the official website of the President of Kazakhstan.

According to Tokayev’s decree dated July 22, Yeraly Tugzhanov was appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Uzbekistan.

Yeraly Tugzhanov was born on May 13, 1963, in West Kazakhstan Region. He graduated from Karaganda State University in 1988 and the Institute of State and Law of the Kazakhstan Academy of Sciences in 1994. Tugzhanov holds a Candidate of Legal Sciences degree and a Doctorate in Political Science.

He began his professional career in 1980 as a worker in the forestry sector. Later, he worked as a lecturer at Karaganda State University and served as dean and director of an institute at Kazakh State Law University.

From 2001 to 2006, he served as Deputy Governor of Karaganda Region. Between 2006 and 2008, he headed the Committee for Religious Affairs under the Ministry of Justice. From 2008 to 2017, he served as Deputy Chairman and Head of the Secretariat of the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan under the Presidential Administration.

From 2017 to 2019, Tugzhanov served as Governor of Mangystau Region, and from 2019 to 2020, he was Chairman of the Federation of Trade Unions of Kazakhstan. Between 2020 and 2022, he served as Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, and from 2022 to 2023, he was Governor of Aktobe Region. Since May 2024, he has served as an adviser to the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan.
