Illegally constructed buildings within apartments are under inspection in Uzbekistan

Starting from September 1st, arbitrary constructions within multi-apartment buildings will be subject to inspection in Uzbekistan. This directive is outlined in the Presidential Decree titled "Additional Measures for the Further Enhancement of Seismic Safety for the Population and Territory of the Republic of Uzbekistan," which was adopted on May 16th of this year.

As per the decree, control inspections in the realm of construction, housing, and communal infrastructure, in collaboration with district (city) mayors and other pertinent organizations, will commence on September 1st, 2023, following a specific schedule:

1. Illegitimately erected structures situated in communal areas (such as staircases, attics, and shared kitchens) within multi-apartment buildings categorized under seismic safety levels III-IV, situated within the seismic activity zone of the republic.

2. Identification of unauthorized alterations to structures that impact the earthquake resistance of multi-apartment buildings, encompassing their foundations and ground floors.

Appropriate measures will be taken in accordance with the law in instances involving unauthorized alterations to the identified illicit constructions and constructions that impact earthquake resistance.
