Social media reports indicated that three bears targeted the sheep and cattle of locals in the "Soygos" neighborhood, located in the Urgut District of the Samarkand Region. The Department of Ecology's press service in Samarkand responded promptly to the incident.

State inspectors from the Department of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change of Samarkand Region, along with the Urgut District Inspectorate, swiftly managed the situation.

The attack took place in the Kashkadarya region at Kunkormas Pass, which lies on the border between Samarkand and Kashkadarya regions. Central Asian brown bears, a rare species, consumed four goats while shepherds from the "Soygos" neighborhood in Urgut District were tending their livestock in the bears' natural habitat at an altitude of 2,500-2,700 meters. Fortunately, no harm came to either the shepherds or the bears.

Residents also noted that two days prior, bears had descended at night to feed on fruit trees growing on the mountainside, 2-3 kilometers from the "Soygos" neighborhood.

"The situation is currently under control, with relevant experts conducting ongoing studies," stated the report.

In May, we recall, a bear was shot and killed in a residential area in Surkhandarya.
