A deputy from the "Adolat" Social Democratic Party (SDP) faction in the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis has submitted an official deputation request to the Ministry of Health. This request was made following public outrage over the amputation of a 2-month-old baby's hand at Tashkent City Clinical Hospital No. 1. The infant reportedly developed gangrene after being admitted with a fever.

Recent reports on social media have highlighted similar medical mishaps, including an incident in the Fergana region where a patient’s right leg was amputated after complications involving their left leg.

Deputy Mavluda Adhamjonova, a member of the "Adolat" SDP faction, addressed several pointed questions to Minister of Health Asilbek Khudoyorov in her deputation, including:

1. What systematic measures are being implemented to ensure the safety and quality of medical services in Uzbekistan?
2. How does the Ministry monitor compliance with healthcare regulations in medical institutions to prevent endangerment of human life?
3. What steps are taken to enforce infection prevention and sanitation in medical facilities?
4. What additional measures are planned to identify those responsible and prevent similar cases in the future?

Citing Article 15 of the Law "On Parliamentary Control," the deputy called for a detailed explanation from the Ministry.

The "Adolat" SDP emphasized that repeated medical errors, especially those resulting in severe harm to patients, reflect systemic weaknesses and a lack of accountability within the healthcare system. The party urged for stricter oversight, identification of responsible individuals, and the implementation of preventive measures.

Earlier, the Ministry of Health acknowledged the situation, stating that the baby suffered from "thromboembolism of the left brachial artery, third-degree acute blood circulation disorder in the left arm, and polyorgan failure." Doctors reportedly performed the amputation with parental consent to save the child’s life. The Ministry added that the baby’s condition is currently stable.

This case has reignited public debate about the quality and oversight of medical services in Uzbekistan, with calls for stronger reforms to protect patient safety.
