Videos under the title “Girl born in 2008 in Surkhandarya region has 2 children” were distributed on social networks. The Children's Ombudsman responded to this situation.

It turned out that on November 21 of this year, bloggers A.Sh. (male), J.N. (male, born in 2003) and S.R. (female, born in 2005) agreed to participate in a video, in which S.R. and J.N. pretended to be the parents of minors aged 15 and 17. A.Sh. positively commented on the situation with early marriage during the video and posted this video on his Instagram page.

At the request of the Children's Ombudsman, yesterday, November 25, in order to assess the actions of blogger A.Sh. in this case of promoting early marriage, the case files were sent by the district Internal Affairs Department to the Termez City Court for Criminal Cases.

The documents collected by the court were reviewed, and A.Sh. was held liable under Part 1 of Article 2022 of the Code of Administrative Responsibility (Dissemination of False Information) and a fine of 4 times the minimum wage was imposed on him. J.N. and A.Sh. were warned not to commit such unacceptable actions.

For information, since 2019, the single marriage age for men and women in Uzbekistan has been set at 18 years old.

"The position of the Children's Ombudsman in this regard is that special legal norms should be introduced that prohibit any actions aimed at promoting marriage with a person who is not of marriageable age, that is, a minor! Such situations that are contrary to the interests of the child have absolutely no place in our society, they must be completely eliminated," the report says.

We would like to remind you that this summer in the Bukhara region, documents were sent to the court to hold the parents of a 16-year-old groom and a 17-year-old bride, who married early, administratively liable.
