A criminal case has been initiated against a mother in Surkhandarya region for physically abusing her child and causing bodily harm, according to a report by the Children's Ombudsman.

The Ombudsman's Secretariat received an appeal from a citizen identified as I.K., a resident of Termez.

In his appeal, I.K. stated that due to family disputes, he no longer lives with his wife, F.T. He alleged that F.T. had repeatedly physically abused their daughter, Z.D., born in 2009, causing bodily harm.

It was revealed that the mother had previously faced administrative penalties for harming her daughter.

"Despite this, the father reported that the violence continued and requested protection for his child, urging legal action against his wife," the report noted.

Following the appeal, the Surkhandarya regional prosecutor’s office launched an investigation at the request of the Children's Ombudsman. A pre-investigation inquiry conducted by the Termez city internal affairs department, supported by forensic medical examination results, confirmed that the woman had physically assaulted her minor child, causing injuries.

On December 19, 2024, a criminal case was opened against the woman under Article 126, Paragraph 1 (Domestic Violence) of the Criminal Code. Preliminary investigations are currently underway.

It is worth recalling that a similar case occurred earlier in Tashkent, where a criminal case was initiated against a mother for inhumane treatment of her minor child. In that instance, the Shaykhantohur District Internal Affairs Directorate, under the Investigation Department, filed charges under Article 110 (Torture) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
