2710A driver who struck a pedestrian at high speed in the Surkhandarya region has been sentenced to 6 years in prison. Aziz Obidov, the press secretary of the Supreme Court, provided this information.
On June 8 of this year, in the Surkhandarya region, the driver increased his speed to an uncontrollable level, resulting in the death of a pedestrian in intensive care. The case was reviewed by the Termiz District Court for Criminal Cases.
The driver, who has five children, was sentenced to 6 years in prison.
"I regret what I did. I only apologize," the driver said.
For context, 194 accidents have occurred in Surkhandarya up until August 2024, resulting in 128 injuries and 86 fatalities. According to analyses, most car accidents involve drivers aged 18 to 30 years.
It’s worth noting that in a previous incident in the Andijan region, a driver died in a collision between a Nexia and a truck.
