It was reported on social networks that approximately 70,000 trees would be cut down for the planned international highway project in Surkhandarya and Bukhara regions. Specifically, it was mentioned that 21,800 trees are planned to be cut in Surkhandarya region and 28,900 trees in Bukhara. The road project that triggered these objections will undergo alterations, according to the information provided by the Ecological Party of Uzbekistan.

A working group, consisting of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis and local Council deputies, scientists, and experts led by the Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Central Council of the Ecological Party of Uzbekistan, Abdushukur Hamzayev, visited the regions to study the situation related to tree cutting in Surkhandarya and Bukhara.

Considering the current ecological situation in the country and the rightful objections of the public, the working group proposed to the officials of the contractor organization responsible for reconstructing this highway to modify the project in collaboration with industry experts, aiming to avoid damage to the trees.

"The Ecological Party of Uzbekistan strongly condemns the harm to flora during the implementation of any construction projects and expresses its gratitude to the public representatives, calling on all citizens to cooperate in the noble endeavor of preserving mother nature," the message says.

As a reminder, earlier, in January-February, 1,213 trees growing on the banks of the Katta Andijan canal in Fergana region were cut down, resulting in 4.6 billion soums of damage to nature. In response to this situation, the prosecutor's office of Fergana region initiated a criminal case under Article 198 of the Criminal Code (damaging or destroying fields, forests, trees, or other plants).
