Father and Son arrested in Samarkand for extorting $22,000 to send citizens to work in the US

A father and son in Samarkand were arrested after they demanded $22,000 from two citizens in exchange for promises to send them to work in the United States, according to UzA.

S.A., a resident of the Urgut district, and his son S.M. colluded to gain the trust of two local individuals, offering to send them to the U.S. for work. In return, S.A. demanded $11,000 from each of them, totaling $22,000. He insisted on an advance payment of 70% of the total sum, with the remaining 30% due after the visa documents were prepared.

Law enforcement officers apprehended S.A. during an operation, seizing material evidence while he was in the process of receiving $15,400 in advance.

In a separate case, A.N., a 1999-born resident of Samarkand region temporarily residing in Tashkent, was arrested after demanding $21,000 from acquaintances to help a citizen secure employment in the United States. He was caught after receiving $9,000 in advance.

A criminal case has been initiated against the individuals involved under the relevant articles of the Criminal Code, and further investigations are ongoing.

Earlier, in the Syrdarya region, a man was arrested for promising a U.S. visa in exchange for $10,000.
