Pedestrian dies after being struck by traffic police vehicle in Samarkand (video)

A pedestrian has died after being struck by a patrol vehicle driven by a traffic police officer in Samarkand, according to the Regional Road Safety Department.

The incident occurred at approximately 6:15 p.m. on July 21 on Shabbod Street in Samarkand City. Surveillance camera footage showed a traffic police officer driving an official Chevrolet Tracker patrol vehicle when it struck a woman, identified as S.A., born in 1951, as she was crossing the road.

According to the Regional Road Safety Department, the pedestrian was crossing the road outside a designated pedestrian crossing.

The woman died at the scene as a result of the injuries she sustained in the collision.

The Samarkand City Prosecutor's Office has launched a pre-investigation inquiry into the incident.

Earlier, three traffic police officers in Tashkent's Mirzo Ulugbek District were involved in a road accident after their motorcycle collided with a Chevrolet Onix. One of the officers died as a result of the crash.
