The President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, proposed involving Afghanistan in regional negotiations on the joint use of water resources. He mentioned this on September 15th during a meeting of the Council of Heads of State, the founders of the International Fund for Aral Rescue (IFSR).

"Dear heads of delegations, I would like to share my views on the Koshtepa channel. Essentially, a new participant has emerged in the process of water usage in our region, which is not bound by any obligations to our countries. In this regard, we propose considering the issue of involving representatives from Afghanistan in the regional dialogue on the joint use of water resources," said the President of Uzbekistan.

He further emphasized that, at present, the construction of the canal is actively underway in Afghanistan, and its launch could fundamentally change the water regime and balance in Central Asia.

"It is necessary to establish a joint working group to study all aspects of the Koshtepa canal construction, involving international experts," added Mirziyoyev.
