4115On March 5, a meeting was held in Tashkent between Uzbekistan’s Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov and Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, leading their respective government delegations. The discussions focused on fulfilling agreements in cultural, trade, and humanitarian sectors, as well as developing new proposals to enhance bilateral relations.
The meeting emphasized three key areas: advancing trade and economic ties, expanding investment and cooperation projects, and improving the transport and logistics system. Both sides noted that the current trade volume and structure do not fully reflect the potential of the two nations. They highlighted the importance of utilizing the Uzbekistan-Georgia free trade agreement to increase trade turnover to $1 billion in the coming years.
This goal can be achieved by opening broader opportunities for the exchange of goods such as textiles, footwear, leather, electronics, food products, metals, fruits and vegetables, chemicals, and construction materials.
"In addition to trade and investment, the delegations discussed improving relations in agriculture, transport, logistics, education, tourism, and cultural-humanitarian sectors, which align with the interests of both countries. Regional cooperation was also highlighted as a vital factor, with direct partnerships between cities like Samarkand and Batumi, as well as Bukhara and Mtskheta, expected to significantly contribute to bilateral trade and economic relations," the report states.
Following the meetings, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze concluded his two-day official visit to Uzbekistan. He was seen off at Tashkent International Airport by Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov and other officials.
It is worth noting that during his visit, Kobakhidze also visited the “New Uzbekistan” park alongside Prime Minister Aripov, where he laid flowers at the Independence Monument. Additionally, he held discussions with members of the Uzbek Senate and met with President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to further strengthen ties between the two nations.
