Individuals who took money from job seekers under the pretense of sending them to Croatia have been apprehended, the State Security Service (SSS) reported.

According to the report, a man born in 1997, residing in Bukhara and previously convicted of fraud, introduced himself to three citizens from Tashkent city, Tashkent region, and Kashkadarya region as an agent of a travel agency. Claiming he had contacts in Croatia, he demanded $6,000 from these citizens to arrange worker visas for them.

In a joint operation carried out by the SSS Tashkent city department and the Department for Combating Economic Crimes under the Prosecutor General’s Office in the Yakkasaray district, the suspect was caught with physical evidence while receiving $3,000 of the requested amount in advance.

A similar case was reported in the Namangan region. A man born in 1999 and residing in Namangan allegedly gained the trust of three residents. With the help of his brother, who is currently living and working in Croatia, he demanded $2,600 from each person — a total of $7,800 — to send them abroad for work.

He was also arrested with physical evidence by the SSS and the Department for Combating Economic Crimes under the Prosecutor General’s Office while accepting $3,900 as an advance payment.

Criminal cases have been opened against both suspects under Article 168 (Fraud), Part 2, Paragraph “a” of the Criminal Code. Investigative proceedings are ongoing.

Earlier, it was reported that individuals who promised to send nine people to Germany for work had been detained. Those suspects collected a total of $12,500 and 73.2 million soums through fraudulent means.
