Trial begins for teenager who hit traffic police officer with BMW

In February this year, 10th-grade student Doniyor Turg‘unov hit road patrol service inspector Xosilbek Eshnazarov with a BMW in Tashkent, causing his death. The trial against Doniyor Turg‘unov has now begun. This was reported by Tursunali Akbarov, spokesperson for the Supreme Council of Judges, in response to an inquiry from QALAMPIR.UZ.

According to him, the trial is being held behind closed doors because the case involves a minor. The preliminary hearing took place on June 26 this year at the Mirobod District Criminal Court.

The case was submitted to the court under Article 104, Part 3, Clause “d” of the Criminal Code (intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm resulting in death).

What happened?

On February 25 this year, at around 21:46 in Tashkent, minor Doniyor Turg‘unov, born in 2010 and a 10th-grade student at a private school, was driving a BMW M4 without a driver’s license along Mirobod Street in the Mirobod district when he struck Xosilbek Eshnazarov, a road patrol service inspector of the Traffic Safety Department under the Tashkent City Internal Affairs Directorate.

Later, despite receiving medical treatment, the law enforcement officer, who had been under doctors’ supervision for three days, died. It was decided that the officer’s family members would be placed under state protection.

In March, it became known that teenager Doniyor Turg‘unov, who had hit the inspector, had been taken into custody. It was reported that, as part of the criminal case, Turg‘unov had been charged as a suspect for crimes stipulated under Article 267, Part 1 (theft or unlawful taking of a vehicle) and Article 104, Part 3, Clause “d” of the Criminal Code.
