President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reaffirmed Uzbekistan’s firm support for the Palestinian people’s right, guaranteed by United Nations resolutions, to establish their own independent state. He made the statement on August 29 at a ceremony marking the 34th anniversary of Uzbekistan’s independence, held in the “New Uzbekistan” park in Tashkent.
“Once again, we express our unwavering position that the Palestinian people have the right, guaranteed by UN resolutions, to create their own independent state,” Mirziyoyev said.
The president also emphasized the importance of constructive and practical cooperation with Afghanistan, describing it as a key factor for regional and global security.
Mirziyoyev highlighted Uzbekistan’s tradition of humanitarian support for civilians caught in conflict and natural disasters.
“Following our humanitarian traditions, a special decree has been adopted to provide necessary social, material, and moral assistance to Palestinian citizens brought to Uzbekistan as our guests,” he said.
The head of state expressed confidence that the tolerant and compassionate people of Uzbekistan would actively support and participate in the implementation of the measures outlined in the decree.
It is worth noting that on November 11 last year, during an extraordinary Arab-Islamic summit, Mirziyoyev expressed readiness to provide free medical treatment in Uzbek hospitals for Palestinian women and children wounded in the war.
On December 27, 2024, Uzbekistan evacuated 100 injured Palestinian women and children, along with their companions, from the conflict zone. According to Mansurbek Kilichev, Uzbekistan’s ambassador to Cairo, the evacuees would remain in Uzbekistan as honored guests and be provided with comprehensive care until their return home.
On August 14, Mirziyoyev signed a decree titled “On Measures to Establish a System of Support for a Group of Palestinian Citizens in Uzbekistan Based on the Principles of State Care and Compassion.” Under this decree, Palestinian children brought to Uzbekistan will be enrolled in educational programs, elderly citizens without sufficient work experience will receive a two-week pension, and a special fund—without legal entity status—will be created to finance initiatives addressing their needs.
