Starting June 1, 2024, consumers in Uzbekistan won't be able to pay for electricity if they have outstanding debts for waste removal. This new procedure will initially be enforced in Tashkent, Nukus, and regional centers before extending throughout the republic.
This decision was outlined in the decree of the Uzbekistan President titled 'On measures to improve the waste management system and reduce their negative impact on the environmental situation,' signed on January 4, 2024.
According to the Minister of Energy's information service, payment for electricity will now be limited if there's a debt from solid household waste services.
As per the document:
- For debts incurred for 6 months for waste services in the cities of Tashkent and Nukus and regional centers, starting from June 1, 2024.
- For debts incurred for waste services in all regions of the republic for 3 months, starting from November 1, 2024.
- From January 1, 2025, restrictions will be imposed on the payment of electricity for 1-month arrears of waste services in all regions of the republic.
These restrictions do not apply to debts accrued before December 31, 2023.
