Such cases cannot be calmly observed - Saida Mirziyoyeva speaks about the groom who beat the bride at his wedding

A case circulated on social media in which a groom hit the bride during his wedding can not be observed as a usual thing to do.  Deputy Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Mass Media Foundation, member of the Commission for Gender Equality in Uzbekistan Saida Mirziyoyeva commented on the beating of the bride by the groom at the wedding in the Surkhandarya region.

“The video of the groom beating the bride at the wedding for daring to win the contest caused a great resonance in our society.

It doesn’t matter where it happened-in our country or a neighboring country, two days ago or two years ago.  What is important is our attitude towards this hideous situation.

If this incident has made you and everyone around you angry, then you have a healthy community around you.

If you hear people say: “A woman should obey a man”, "She is guilty, she may not have held her tongue," "Then this is a real disaster," she said.

She went on to say that all people who want to live in a prosperous, cultured country, rich and happy, must understand that violence against women is unacceptable and stand firm on this point.

"Such cases can’t be observed calmy nor considered as a usual thing to happen.  At the time when we condemn the groom and feel sorry for the bride, it is important to comprehend that we should neither treat our children the same way, not ban them from studying after graduating from school, not try to push them to marry as soon as possible, and not to restrict them from living their own lives."

"That is why we need a curriculum that opens up a wide range of prospects and makes women independent and strong.  Education allows us to choose how we live,” - Saida Mirziyoyeva said.

It should be noted that this case also attracted the attention of the international media.  In particular, the German edition “Bild” tried through this video, to assess the situation of women in Uzbekistan.

“For some people, it is a beautiful day and the beginning of happy family life, but for many women around the world, it is only the first signal on the road to hell of marriage!”

In connection with the spread of the video far beyond the borders of Uzbekistan, the groom, who beat up the bride at the wedding, was found and an administrative case was initiated against him under article 183 (minor hooliganism) of the Code of Administrative Offences, and the collected documents were sent to the court for consideration.
