6130In the Bukhara region, governors, their deputies, and sector heads will be placed under a 6-month emergency work regime. This was announced on November 29 during a meeting led by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, focused on creating additional opportunities, increasing investments, and generating jobs in the region.
During the meeting, which adopted a critical tone, it was highlighted that the region's economic performance does not align with its potential. The inadequate efforts in attracting investments, reducing poverty, and addressing unemployment were particularly noted.
"All attention will be focused on improving these three areas. In particular, based on the experiences of Saykhunabad, Uychi, Zarbdor, and Gijduvan, it is necessary to implement 70 driver projects, making 150,000 people profitable and lifting 40,000 people out of poverty," the President's press service stated.
Each district in the region will be specialized in specific industries. For instance, Peshku and Shafirkan districts will focus on construction materials and textiles, while Kogon City, Olot, and Jondor will specialize in food production. Meanwhile, Gijduvan and Romitan will focus on the chemical industry. These initiatives aim to enable entrepreneurs to implement projects worth $150 million, resulting in the creation of 411 small enterprises and 12,000 jobs.
Tourism is another key area of focus. By next year, Bukhara aims to attract 2.2 million foreign tourists and generate $600 million in tourism exports. Plans include constructing 69 new hotels and setting up 2,000 craft stalls and shops.
Additionally, 20,000 hectares of land will be developed, leading to the production of an extra 100,000 tons of agricultural products and the creation of 2,000 jobs. Efforts will also be made to plant more trees and cultivate food products in vacant lots, fields, and along canals.
Another opportunity lies in utilizing the region’s pastures, which span over 2 million hectares. According to plans, currently unused pastures will be used for growing pistachios, as discussed in a recent meeting on fruit and vegetable cultivation.
During the session, the governor of the Bukhara region presented plans to capitalize on these opportunities. Notably, 106 projects worth $2 billion in foreign investment are planned for implementation next year. These projects are expected to create 105,000 permanent jobs and generate $350 million in exports.
However, the Head of State emphasized that these plans are insufficient for the region's needs and instructed officials to enhance their efforts and deliver better results. Proposals will be reviewed, and a draft resolution will be submitted for approval.
