Man posing as a woman scams Bukhara resident for 152 million sums

A man from Kashkadarya who pretended to be a woman in distress deceived a resident of Bukhara and scammed him out of 152 million sums. QALAMPIR.UZ has reviewed the court documents related to the case.  

According to the report, a 28-year-old man from Karshi district, Kashkadarya region, connected with a resident of Gijduvan district, Bukhara region, through social media. Introducing himself as "Madina Olimova," he posed as a woman facing serious family issues.  

Over time, he gained the victim’s trust and convinced him that he needed financial assistance to resolve his so-called problems. Under the promise of repayment, he managed to obtain a total of 151.6 million sums from the Bukhara resident.  

After prolonged phone conversations, the victim eventually discovered that his supposed girlfriend was, in fact, a man. Realizing he had fallen for a scam, he reported the fraud to law enforcement authorities.  

The Karaulbazar District Court for Criminal Cases found the perpetrator guilty under Part 3, Subparagraphs “a” and “b” of Article 168 of the Criminal Code (fraud). Considering a plea agreement, the court sentenced him to five years in prison under this article and Article 57 of the Criminal Code.
