Abdulaziz Kamilov has been appointed to a new position

Deputy Secretary of the Security Council under the president of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov was appointed to the new post by a decree of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

According to the report of Sherzod Asadov, the press secretary of the president's administration, Kamilov was appointed special representative of the president of the Republic of Uzbekistan for foreign affairs.

For reference, Abdulaziz Kamilov was born in 1947.  Now he is 74 years old.  He has served as Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2012 to April 2022.  On 27 April, Kamilov was appointed Deputy Secretary of the Security Council for foreign policy and security by the president.

Abdulaziz Kamilov last appeared as Foreign Minister at the plenary session of the Senate on 17 March.  In the session, the Minister stated that Tashkent would not recognize the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics and would support the territorial integrity of Ukraine. After that, he did not make any appearances anywhere.  By the end of the month, it was known that Kamilov was being treated abroad.
