2308Today, November 18, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev delivered a speech at the first post-election session of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis. This was confirmed by the president's press secretary, Sherzod Asadov.
At the outset, President Mirziyoyev congratulated the newly elected deputies of the Legislative Chamber, emphasizing the significance of their roles.
"Every election represents a crucial political process for the state and society. Especially in today's tense and dangerous global situation, conducting such public events demands even greater responsibility. Wars, disputes, and conflicts are escalating in various regions," he stated.
The president highlighted the key aspects of this year's parliamentary elections, noting their historic nature as the first elections conducted under the updated Constitution. He emphasized the formation of a new system of representation with significantly enhanced rights, powers, and responsibilities.
"Over the past eight years, the political mindset of our people has transformed fundamentally, and their political culture has greatly matured. Political parties now play a more active role in societal life. This progress laid a strong foundation for introducing a mixed electoral system. In many countries, such reforms take decades to implement. In this regard, Uzbekistan stands among the few nations that have successfully introduced a mixed electoral system in a remarkably short time," he stated.
It is noteworthy that during this session, Nuriddin Ismailov was elected Speaker of the Legislative Chamber. Additionally, UzLiDeP deputies Mavluda Khojayeva and Rahimjon Hakimov were elected as Deputy Speakers.
