4095President Shavkat Mirziyoyev emphasized the need to revitalize opposition activity in the parliament during the first session of the Legislative Chamber following the elections, held on November 18.
The president proposed measures to strengthen the opposition's role by increasing its guaranteed rights in parliament from 3 to 6. These measures include guaranteeing the opposition the positions of one committee chairperson and two deputy committee chairpersons, as well as providing additional rights such as the introduction of at least one topic during the quarterly "Government Hour" and initiating parliamentary inquiries.
Mirziyoyev expressed confidence that transferring the healthy competition seen during elections and the clash of opposing opinions into the parliamentary setting would contribute significantly to the development of laws in the interest of the people.
He further noted that parliamentary oversight is primarily political oversight, which directly correlates with political accountability. The president highlighted that after reviewing a government member's report to the Legislative Chamber, the president has the right to propose the resignation of that leader based on the report's findings.
