Today, November 13, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev welcomed Azerbaijani literary critic and poet Akif Bagirov at his residence in Baku, as reported by the President's press service.
Known by his pen name, Akif Azalp, Bagirov was born in Nakhichevan but has spent much of his life in Uzbekistan. He has dedicated himself to introducing Azerbaijani audiences to Uzbek literature, translating the works of many Uzbek poets and writers into Azerbaijani. Recently, he translated the book "Vaqt haykali" by Sirajiddin Sayyid.
According to the press release, Bagirov is also celebrated for his ode "Uzbek kelayotir," which reflects his admiration for Uzbekistan’s rich history and recent achievements, especially the reforms introduced under President Mirziyoyev’s leadership.
During the meeting, Bagirov presented President Mirziyoyev with his new book, "Shavkat Mirziyoyev fenomeni" written in Azerbaijani.
The book includes journalistic essays selected from political scientist Qudratilla Rafikov’s works, "Mening Prezidentim" and "Millatparvarvar", which Bagirov translated into Azerbaijani. It highlights key aspects of Mirziyoyev’s policies, including economic development, infrastructure modernization, social improvements, and efforts to enhance Uzbekistan’s international standing.
President Mirziyoyev expressed gratitude to Bagirov for his role in promoting Uzbek literature in Azerbaijan and fostering cultural ties between the two nations.
