Uzbek citizens who traveled to Croatia for employment and fell victim to fraud have been returned to Uzbekistan with the assistance of the Uzbek Embassy in Budapest, the Dunyo Information Agency reported.
According to the report, two citizens identified as A.A. and R.I. contacted the embassy’s consular section requesting assistance in returning to Uzbekistan from Croatia.
It was established that a private employment agency had deceived the individuals by fraudulently promising them jobs. As a result, the citizens were left without work or financial means and sought help from the embassy to purchase airline tickets to return home.
Taking the circumstances into account, the embassy established working coordination with Uzbekistan’s External Labor Migration Agency.
Following an investigation and necessary arrangements, airline tickets were purchased for the applicants using funds from the Uzbek Fund for the Support and Assistance of Labor Migrants, and the citizens were returned to Uzbekistan.
For reference, in November 2025, 19 Uzbek citizens who had found themselves in difficult conditions in the Kyiv region were also returned home as a result of coordinated efforts by the Uzbek Embassy, the National Police of Ukraine, and the International Organization for Migration offices in Ukraine and Moldova.
