Abdulaziz Kamilov appointed as Presidential Advisor on Foreign Policy

Abdulaziz Hafizovich Kamilov has been appointed Advisor to the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Foreign Policy. The appointment was announced by Presidential Spokesperson Sherzod Asadov.

In connection with the new role, Kamilov was relieved of his previous position as Special Representative of the President for Foreign Policy.

Background

Born on November 16, 1947, Abdulaziz Kamilov is currently 77 years old. He previously served as Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan from 2012 to April 2022.

On April 27, 2022, he was appointed Deputy Secretary of the Security Council under the President for Foreign Policy and Security Affairs. On June 16, 2022, he assumed the role of Special Representative of the President on Foreign Policy.

Awards and Recognition

Kamilov has received several prestigious honors for his contributions to international diplomacy:

  •  In 2023, he was awarded the Order of the Rising Sun by Emperor Naruhito of Japan.
  • In 2024, he received the title "Honored Elder of Turkmenistan" (Hormatly il ýaşulusy) from President Serdar Berdimuhamedov of Turkmenistan;
  •  Later that year, on December 27, 2024, he was awarded the rank of "Officer" of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic by the President of Italy.
