Aliyev sends birthday greetings to Mirziyoyev

On July 24, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev congratulated President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev on his birthday. This was reported by Presidential Spokesperson Sherzod Asadov.
“Dear Shavkat Miromonovich, my dear brother! I am pleased to send you my sincere congratulations and best wishes on your birthday,” Aliyev wrote.
In his congratulatory message, the Azerbaijani leader emphasized that under Mirziyoyev’s leadership, Uzbekistan has developed in all directions, achieved remarkable progress in various spheres, strengthened its economic potential, and gained high prestige in the international arena.
“All this is a direct result of your hard work and tireless service as a great statesman. We are sincerely pleased and proud that brotherly Uzbekistan, under your firm leadership, continues to achieve new successes year after year and gains significant recognition on the world stage,” Aliyev stated.
He also noted Mirziyoyev’s major role in elevating the multifaceted relations between the two countries—built on brotherhood, shared history, and national and cultural values—to today’s high level.
“Your steadfast and selfless work for the unity and alliance of our countries has earned deep respect and goodwill towards you in Azerbaijan. I warmly recall our fruitful meeting during your recent state visit to Azerbaijan, our discussions held in the spirit of mutual trust, understanding, and sincerity. The outcomes of the second meeting of the Supreme Interstate Council of Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan, the signing of agreements in various areas, and the achievement of important decisions during the visit are truly commendable,” he said.
Expressing his appreciation for the sincerity, friendship, and brotherly relations he shares with Mirziyoyev, Aliyev voiced confidence that the close and allied ties between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan will continue to grow and gain new dimensions through joint efforts.
“On this auspicious occasion, I once again sincerely congratulate you and wish you and your family good health, long life, happiness, new successes, and further victories in your high state activities for the prosperity and well-being of fraternal Uzbekistan,” Aliyev concluded.
For reference, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev turned 68 today, July 24. He was born on July 24, 1957, in the Zamin district of the Jizzakh region into a family of doctors. An ethnic Uzbek, he graduated from the Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Agricultural Mechanization Engineers in 1981 with a degree in mechanical engineering. He holds the title of Candidate of Technical Sciences and is an Associate Professor.
Mirziyoyev began his career in 1981 at the same institute as a junior research fellow, senior lecturer, associate professor, and later vice-rector for academic affairs.
In 1990, he was elected a deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the Republic and simultaneously served as chairman of the Mandate Commission. In 1992, he was appointed khokim of the Mirzo Ulugbek district of Tashkent. From 1996 to 2001, he served as khokim of the Jizzakh region, and from 2001 to 2003, he was khokim of the Samarkand region, significantly contributing to the socio-economic development of these territories.
Between 1995 and 2003, he also served as a deputy of the Oliy Majlis, actively participating in the development and adoption of key legislative acts for the country’s political and socio-economic development and democratic reforms.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev was appointed Prime Minister of Uzbekistan in 2003 and was reappointed for this position three more times—in 2005, 2010, and 2015.
He later won the presidential elections in 2016, 2021, and 2023, becoming the President of Uzbekistan.
It should be noted that earlier, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and his father, national leader of the Turkmen people Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, also sent congratulations. Russian President Vladimir Putin highlighted Mirziyoyev’s contribution to strengthening the strategic partnership and allied relations between the two countries, while Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasized that he pays special attention to the development of relations with Uzbekistan.
