Penalties to be toughened for those responsible for road accidents

Uzbekistan will toughen liability for individuals who deliberately disregard and violate traffic rules, causing road accidents. Erali Bozorov, Deputy Head of the Road Safety Service under the Public Security Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, announced this today, July 14, during an analytical report on the activities of internal affairs bodies for the first half of this year.

According to Erali Bozorov, a draft law on this matter has been submitted to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis. The draft proposes stricter measures against individuals who cause road accidents as a result of deliberately violating traffic rules.

For reference, since June 1, 2025, penalty points have been calculated based on reports drawn up by road patrol officers under Article 12 of the Code of Administrative Liability, which concerns committing an administrative offense through negligence. Since April 1 this year, penalty points have also been assigned for four types of violations recorded by automatic violation detection devices: disobeying a prohibitory traffic light signal, violating stopping and parking rules, driving in the opposite lane, and failing to comply with speed limits.

Earlier, it was reported that 671 drivers in Uzbekistan had accumulated more than 12 penalty points, and since the penalty point system was introduced on April 1 this year, administrative warnings have been issued to a total of 399,269 citizens.
