6 schoolchildren become pregnant in half a year – Ministry

During the first 6 months of 2023, 6 female students of general secondary schools were diagnosed with early pregnancy.  The head of the ministry informed KALAMPIR.UZ about this today, July 31, during the press conference held with the Ministry of Pre-School and School Education at the Information and Mass Communications Agency.

“In the first 6 months of 2023, premature birth was detected in 6 schoolchildren.  2 of the cases were observed in Kashkadarya, and 1 each was recorded in Karakalpakstan, Samarkand, Syrdarya and Surkhandarya.  Partner organizations for the prevention of early pregnancy and early childbirth among secondary school students: Family and Women’s Committee, local neighborhood activists and school psychologists, class leaders, the morale of the school director  - works are being carried out in close cooperation with the deputies for educational affairs,” said Azamat Kamolov, deputy head of the department for coordination of educational affairs in educational organizations.

He said that most of these cases happened during the summer holidays or outside of school.  Therefore, parents should exercise stronger control.

“But this does not mean that the school does not take responsibility.  Currently, many activities are being held to prepare schoolgirls for family life, to explain the consequences of such situations with health workers,” said Azamat Kamolov.
