4579A new Atomic Energy Agency under the Cabinet of Ministers will be formed from the existing Atomic Energy Development Agency, which is currently under the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan. This was detailed in a presidential decree issued on May 24, titled "On measures to improve the state management and control system in the fields of subsoil use, industry, radiation and nuclear safety, and atomic energy use."
According to the decree:
- The Committee on Industry, Radiation, and Nuclear Safety will be established under the Cabinet of Ministers, based on the Mining, Geology, and Industrial Safety Control Inspectorate under the Ministry of Mining and Geology.
- The Inspection of Mining Industry and Geology will continue to operate under the Ministry of Mining and Geology.
- The Atomic Energy Development Agency will be restructured into the Atomic Energy Agency under the Cabinet of Ministers.
In detail:
- The Committee will serve as the main republican executive body responsible for ensuring radiation and nuclear safety at nuclear energy and technology facilities and for coordinating and implementing state policies on industrial safety at hazardous production sites.
- The Agency will function as a republican executive authority dedicated to the peaceful use of atomic energy, executing state policy in this field.
- The Inspectorate will act as a republican executive authority tasked with state control and inspection of subsoil use and protection.
