Saida Mirziyoyeva discusses summit preparations with EU ambassador

3632Saida Mirziyoeva, the eldest daughter of Uzbekistan's President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and a presidential assistant, met with Toivo Klaar, the European Union ambassador to Uzbekistan, on January 21. Ambassador Klaar shared details of the meeting on his social media accounts.
During their discussion, the two parties focused on preparations for the upcoming "European Union–Central Asia" summit, which is scheduled to take place in Samarkand this April.
"Mr. Klaar expressed his strong support for our efforts aimed at expanding legal protections and economic opportunities for women. He also acknowledged Uzbekistan’s rich history and emphasized that it should always serve as a source of pride and national identity," Mirziyoeva stated.
For context, the most recent "European Union–Central Asia" summit was held on June 2, 2023, in Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgyzstan, under the chairmanship of Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov. That summit was attended by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan, President Emomali Rahmon of Tajikistan, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan, Deputy Prime Minister of Turkmenistan Nurmuhammet Amannepesov, and then-President of the European Council Charles Michel.
