Dilshod Hamidovich Akhatov has been appointed as the new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Uzbekistan to Switzerland, as reported by the "Dunyo" news agency.

Ambassador Akhatov presented his credentials to Swiss President Viola Amherd on October 25. The ambassador’s primary residence is in Berlin.

During the meeting, President Amherd highlighted the significant strengthening of high-level relations between Uzbekistan and Switzerland in recent years. She confirmed the Swiss government's full support for Uzbekistan’s ongoing reforms.

President Amherd noted the substantial potential for economic cooperation between Uzbekistan and Switzerland, emphasizing mutual interests in mineral resources, green energy, water, energy-saving technologies, and addressing climate change. She also expressed Switzerland’s willingness to support the introduction of the Swiss dual education model in Uzbekistan’s professional education system and collaboration on ecological and climate initiatives.

Notably, Uzbekistan’s ambassador to Germany also serves as the official representative to Switzerland. Akhatov previously held roles as ambassador to Germany (2010-2013), where he was also accredited to Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Sweden, and Spain. He later served as Uzbekistan’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and, from 2020 to 2023, as ambassador to India, Bangladesh, and Nepal. On September 27, 2023, he was appointed Uzbekistan's ambassador to Germany.

It is worth mentioning that Oybek Usmanov was recently appointed as Uzbekistan's new ambassador to Afghanistan, replacing Yodgorkhoja Shodmonov, who served in Kabul from 2012 to 2024.
