Historic milestone: Uzbek specialist takes charge as FIE secretary general

A change has been made in the leadership of the International Fencing Federation (FIE). Uzbek Gulnara Saidova has been appointed as Secretary General of the organization. This was reported by the press service of the National Olympic Committee of Uzbekistan (NOC).

According to the Fencing Federation of Uzbekistan, this is the first time a woman has been appointed Secretary General of the FIE, with this position entrusted to Saidova.

“The National Olympic Committee of Uzbekistan congratulates Gulnara Tulkunovna on her election to a responsible position and wishes her great success in her new career,” the NOC said in a statement.

It should be recalled that on December 5, Russian businessman Alisher Usmanov voluntarily terminated his activities as President of the International Fencing Federation. Saidova's appointment is seen as a landmark achievement for gender equality in sports governance and highlights the growing influence of Uzbek specialists on the global stage.
