Cases of violence against individuals in Uzbekistan have risen by 140% over the past four years. This announcement was made today, on October 10, during an event organized by the National Social Protection Agency.

According to the agency, during the corresponding period in 2020, 311 people experienced violence, and by August 2021, this number had increased to 565 victims.

In the first eight months of 2022, the number of reported cases of violence showed a partial improvement compared to 2021, with a total of 511 cases.

However, in the first eight months of 2023, the number of individuals subjected to violence has sharply increased, reaching 747 people.

The majority of these cases are attributed to family or domestic violence, accounting for 51% of the total.

Furthermore, 45% of these violent incidents resulted in severe bodily harm intentionally inflicted. About 4% of such cases involve torture, sexual assault, and other forms of violence. Additionally, 12% of the victims of violence are men, while 88% are women.

Layla Faizimurodova, a senior prosecutor in the Department of Supervision over Juvenile Law Enforcement at the General Prosecutor's Office, commented, "Women often report abuse and seek help, while men are traditionally encouraged to endure suffering in silence. This cultural aspect may contribute to the higher statistics among women."
